A great variety of manga.
Manga as a term outside of Japan refers specifically to comics originally published in Japan. However, manga and manga-influenced comics, among original works, exist in other parts of the world, particularly in Korea (”manhwa”) and in the People’s Republic of China, including Hong Kong (”manhua”).
Claymore is a dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Norihiro Yagi produced for Monthly Shonen Jump. As of October 2007, 13 volumes of the original Japanese edition and 10 in English have been released. Each chapter in the manga is referred to as a “scene”.
As of June 6 2007, the final issue of Monthly Shonen Jump was released and the magazine cancelled, while the Claymore manga appeared on a monthly basis for a brief period in Weekly Shonen Jump. On the 2nd of November, later this year, Claymore will be continued in Jump Square.
Manga Shaman King is the mix of anime and manga series made by Hiroyuki Takei. The manga has ended in Japan with 32 volumes in total. However, it should be noted that the 32nd volume is now no longer the last volume. The anime concluded its run with a total of 64 episodes and 3 specials.
In Shaman King, shamans team up with ghosts and spirits to achieve their goals. The greatest dreams of a shaman is to become the Shaman King, who is able to contact the Great Spirit (the spirit that every soul will eventually go back to) in order to be the savior of the world. Various magical and religious terms are spread through out the story but they merge into something explainable by the time the main plot arrives.
The Shaman King trading card game is available in Japan and North America.
Inuyasha or Feudal Fairy Tale is a Japanese manga series that was later adapted into anime. Written and illustrated by manga artist Rumiko Takahashi, the story centers around a time-traveling middle school student, a half-demon, a lecherous monk, a young fox demon, a demon slayer, and a nekomata during the Sengoku period who seek to restore the Jewel of Four Souls (Shikon no Tama) and to keep it out of the hands of the evil Naraku.
